Hello moms, we are planning to visit disney world on December 2012-13, we are traveling with our 9 year old and our 1 year old girls. I need to best advice to save money, be confortable and enjoy our time at the theme parks and hotel or resorts? Thanks

I would suggest packing a lot of food (or having groceries delivered to your resort). We enjoy grab and go breakfasts like granola, dry cereal, pop tarts, or pastries when on vacation, which saves time and money both. Bottled water and snacks are also handy. You could even purchase a loaf of bread and peanut butter or lunch meat for sandwiches! You are welcome to take a soft-sided cooler into the theme parks.

Purchasing souvenirs can also add up, so consider buying some presents from the Disney Store or trinkets from a dollar store (great for keeping kinds entertained on the plane or in lines, restaurants, etc) before you leave home. When they get a Disney present, they won't care where you bought it!

Another thing we find really adds up are the unexpected purchases - forgetting swim diapers, losing your sunglasses, needing to buy cold medicine. It saves us a lot of money when I do a very thorough packing job!

As for comfort, in the hotel room my #1 tip is to take along an over-the-door shoe storage bag. The pockets are great for storing hairbrushes, bows, razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and all the other little items that normally clutter a sink. This is inexpensive and goes a long way toward the comfort of your room. I also like to pack my children's clothing in zipper bags, one complete outfit for each day. This makes it easy for them to grab a bag and dress, it takes up less space in the suitcase, it makes less of a mess in the room, and it's easy to throw a change of clothes in your park bag as well.

Finally, I will advise you to make the time to slow down a little. My family loves the parks and we are sometimes guilty of rushing from one thing to the next without taking time to smell the roses...or soak up the pixie dust, as the case may be. But we have found over the years that the most magical vacation moments come in the most unexpected of places. Don't rush is my mantra!

    Have a wonderful vacation!
