Hi Julie, and thanks for bringing your question to planDisney! My friends and I just did the mosaic craft at the
Contemporary Resort last month. It was the perfect midday break during our Magic Kingdom day, and we got to take home such unique Disney souvenirs!
Several Disney Resort Hotels have a mosaic craft, but the details vary by resort, including how to sign up.
Spanish Mosaic Art at
Coronado Springs is the only one that can be booked on the
Disney World website. You can also sign up for that one and African Mosaic Art at
Animal Kingdom Villas - Kidani Village by calling the
Tours and Recreation phone number. I just spoke to a Cast Member who confirmed African Mosaic Art is currently run on Tuesdays at 1:30 P.M.
In the past, I’ve also seen mosaic crafts at All-Star Music Resort, Art of Animation Resort, Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter, Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Contemporary Resort, Beach Club Resort, Riviera Resort, and Saratoga Springs Resort. What’s really cool is that many have unique mosaics that go along with their resort's theme. For example, the Contemporary has mosaics inspired by the artwork of Disney Legend Mary Blair. Last month I made the five-legged goat from the
mural near the monorail platform.
When I made my mosaic, the Contemporary was running The Magic of Mosaics on Mondays and Fridays at 1:00 P.M. To confirm the current time at the Contemporary, and to find details for the other resorts, you’ll need to check the Resort Activities schedule usually found in each resort’s lobby. It’s generally recommended that you sign up in advance, but walk-ins are welcome if there’s space.
You’ll need to carve out about two hours to finish your mosaic craft. Even if you’re speedy, there are some steps that take time, like letting the glue dry before moving on to the next part. When you’re done, the mosaic will still need several hours to fully dry so Cast Members will give you a box to keep it safe. Afterward, I ended up dropping off my mosaic at my resort hotel before heading back to Magic Kingdom, but you could also
rent a locker.
If you love mosaics, you might also like the make your own fused glass art at
Glaskunst in EPCOT's Germany pavilion. The offerings vary, but last year my friend made a nightlight with cute little Mickey balloons! It’s not something you can book in advance, but next time you’re in EPCOT, stop by their kiosk to see if they’re running this unique craft.
I hope you get to channel your inner artist during your next visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth! If you have any other questions, we’d love to have you back at planDisney.
