We are planning a trip to WDW in 2009 and was wondering how do the room key purchases work, and do you have to use a credit card? We don't like to use our cc unless we have to.

When you check in to your room, you will be given the option to put a credit card onto your room key.  If you prefer not to do that, it is not a problem.

If you'd like to take advantage of that option, your room key will have 2 "identities:"  room key and credit card.  When you purchase something, a cast member will use your key just as if it were a Visa or Mastercard.  I should share that you can also decide to have only certain room keys have a credit card placed on them.

We need to travel on a budget, so we never place a credit card on our room key to avoid any temptations.  However, I do make sure that our room is paid in full before we arrive so that it makes checking out simple -- that is, I don't need to make any final payments on our last day and don't need to stop by the main desk.

    Have a wonderful trip!
