I am planning a trip to WDW. I wanted to know if there are complimentary shuttle services from the resorts to outside of WDW area, for shopping or dining outside of the disney area.

While there is ample free transportation within Walt Disney World -- to all the resort hotels, the theme parks, the water parks, and Downtown Disney -- there is no free transportation from WDW to other areas.

Taxis are widely available. You might also want to look into the fee-based shuttles available through Mears Transportation (mearstransportation.com), but if you're going to be spending much time off-property, you're most convenient and perhaps most cost effective option is to rent a car. Rental cars are available at the Orlando airport. Additionally Avis and National have rental desks at locations within WDW.
