We are planning a trip to WDW the first week of Dec. '08. It will be the first time for our 5yr. old daughter, and we are having trouble deciding between WL and Poly. Do you have any recommendations? We will also be celebrating her 5th birthday.

The Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian are two of Disney's wonderful deluxe hotels. You really can't go wrong with either one of them. I am a Disney Vacation Club owner at Wilderness Lodge. It has my favorite themeing of any of the Disney resorts. There are times when I'm standing in the lobby and I simply can't believe that I'm in Florida and not in the great Northwest. And the Wilderness Lodge has two of my most favorite restaurants at WDW: the fun and fabulous Whispering Canyon Cafe and the elegant and refined Artist Point.

But after all that, I'm going to tell you to stay at the Polynesian. And for one main reason -- the monorail. The Wilderness Lodge has great boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom, and bus transportation everywhere else. But there is nothing like the convenience of the monorail with a small child and a first visit. You can be at the Magic Kingdom, hop on the monorail and be back at the Poly in just minutes. Plus there are those unbeatable views of the castle from so many spots at the resort.

As far as the birthday goes, my main bit of advice would be to TELL EVERYONE. Make sure to get a free "birthday button" at the guest relations office at any of the theme parks. Tell the front desk of your hotel. Tell the reservationist when you make any dining reservations and remind them at the restaurant when you check in at the podium. The more people at Disney World that you tell about a birthday, the better chance you have to get a little extra magic thrown your way.

I hope you and your princess have a magical stay at WDW.
