Planning a trip to WDW for my family of 4 (kids 12 & 10) for my son's 10th bday in Jan. I am having a hard time deciding on which Deluxe hotel to stay at. Good counter service, pools, lower priced Deluxe and close enough to go back in the afternoon.

    Hi!

My favorite Disney resort (and favorite resort ANYWHERE) is the Wilderness Lodge resort for all of the reasons you mention!

With kids, or anyone who likes to take a pool break in the afternoon, Wilderness Lodge's convenient boat ferry to the Magic Kingdom just can't be beat! Its easy to start your day at the Magic Kingdom while crowds are low, and then head back to the lodge for an afternoon swim break. Once you are refreshed from the break (and even naps if you're lucky!) you can head out to a different park or back for more fun at the Magic Kingdom.

Another great plus of the Wilderness Lodge, is that you can easily head to the Contemporary or Ft. Wilderness for a meal via the boat ferries that rotate between these three resorts. Breakfast at Chef Mickeys (with characters of course!!) in the Contemporary is always a huge hit.

The pool area is a fun spot with a stream that begins in the lobby flowing down over rocks to the pool. Kids usually can't believe there are often ducks swimming along with them!

I hope this helps you decide. Have a great trip!
