Planning 1st trip 2 WDW for DS4 for 10/14/11 (8 day). How much impact does the Food/Wine Fest have on the crowds compared to say Sept? I have only been summer-too hot & crowded for a 4YO IMO. Want 2 do as much as possible! Suggestions 4 a magical 1st t

Hi, Stephanie!  I have just come home from a busy weekend at Walt Disney World, as the Food and Wine Festival had just kicked off and there were loads of extra people there for the races that took place over the weekend.  I have also been to the Food and Wine festival at all different times of the festival, on weekdays, weekend evenings, etc.

This past week was crazy busy at EPCOT.  The lines for the food kiosks around the World Showcase would make you think that you were going to board Space Mountain when you got to the front of the line.  Walking through World Showcase, you noticed just how crowded it was, as you were sidestepping people and held up in getting from one place to another due to the crowds.

I sent my daughter mid-week to check out the crowds for me, and while EPCOT was still busy, it was definitely manageable.  She was able to visit several of the food kiosks without too much of a wait time, and enjoyed a more leisurely pace around World Showcase.  Best of all, she said the other theme parks were not nearly as busy, and she and a friend were able to get through nearly all of the attractions they wanted to do at the Magic Kingdom in just one day off from work!

The weather this time of year is beautiful, and if you avoid things like Columbus Day weekend (where some kids may have off from school) and the big race weekend, I think you'll find the crowds much lighter than in the middle of summer.

I hope you have a great vacation!
