Planning on a trip for 2014. We have two concerns. One, is it a really long walk from Mermaid room to main building and how is the air conditioning since it motion detected. My husband likes the room cold all the time especially at night.

How exciting you are planing a trip to the "Happiest Place on Earth," Tammy! Thanks for directing your question to me! It truly is a pleasure to assist guests with all of their Walt Disney World vacation planning questions!  I enjoyed a lovely stay at Disney's Art of Animation Resort myself last December and loved the immersive storybook theming and attention to detail at every turn!  I also stayed in a Little Mermaid guest room during my visit. I actually timed the walk from our guest room in Building 8 to Animation Hall, which took approximately 8-10 minutes depending on our pace. I found the walk to be quite enjoyable with all of the beautiful landscaping and giant icons located throughout the resort. I did not personally find our guest room to be overly warm. With that being said, I do understand your concern since your husband likes to keep the room consistently cold. I called Disney's Art of Animation Resort just now to inquire about the motion sensor and was assured that the air should stay on as long as guests are physically in the room. However, if you were to encounter any problems with the air conditioning, you could call the front desk and ask for a boxed fan, if one is available at the time. I have also read of guests putting a helium balloon with a long tether in their room to keep constant motion. I hope this information is helpful and eases your mind. Please don't hesitate to write me back with any additional questions as your planning progresses. Best wishes for a magical 2014 trip, Tammy!
    Happy Planning,
