We are planning a trip to Old Key West in May . 4 young grand children are coming with us. Are the playgrounds open at Old Key West and are children required to wear masks?

    Welcome Home, Marlene!

Disney’s Old Key West Resort is one of our favorites and is my parent’s Disney Vacation Club Home Resort. One of the things we love about Disney Vacation Club is that it allows us to travel with extended family. One of my fondest memories was my oldest son spending most of his day at Magic Kingdom holding hands with his Gran. It’s hard to believe he’s now heading off to college, but I am so grateful for the memories we’ve made with Disney Vacation Club!

While we were vacationing at Disney's Old Key West Resort last autumn, the playground was closed. I just called and spoke to a Cast Member and got the official word that while some resort playgrounds have reopened, the playground at Disney's Old Key West Resort does remain closed. There are socially distant activities by the pool such as Disney trivia and bingo, and life jackets are also available for the little ones. If you were looking to tire out the grandkids and keep them busy, a trip to the pool might do the trick. I know my kiddos always slept extra well after swimming!

All Guests, including children ages 2 and older, are required to wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth while at the Walt Disney World Resort. This includes while walking around at the resort hotels, so if the playgrounds were to reopen before your visit, masks would still be required for the children. Guests, including children, may remove their masks if they are stationary while actively eating or drinking, eating in a restaurant, or are in the pool. Please know that the guidelines while in restaurants have recently changed, and Disney does require that Guests keep their masks on while seated at their table until the food has arrived.

You can check out the specifics on what types of masks are required, as well as other protocols Disney is using to keep you safe on the Covid-19 Experience Updates Page. On our visit in October, we were very impressed with what a good job was done with cleaning, masking, and social distancing. As a hospital nurse in my everyday life, I felt very comfortable at Disney, and we are planning another trip this summer!

I hope you and your grandchildren have a magical family visit to Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Marlene. Keep making those wonderful family memories!
