We are planning a trip for October 2013 with our (then) 4 yr old son and thought it would be fun to see both Halloween and Christmas decorations. If we go from Oct 30 through Nov 5, will we be able to see many of the Christmas decorations?

Hi, Jennifer!  How awesome it would be to have the best of both worlds!  I love the holidays - both Halloween and Christmas - at Walt Disney World.

Decorations usually begin going up by the end of the first or beginning of the second week in November.  You may see the beginning of the decorations, although it's typically a bit later in the month before you'll see everything fully decked out in holiday finery.

The first Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party takes place on November 9th, so except for the big Christmas tree, you'll find much of the Magic Kingdom in the spirit of the season in time for the party.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a pretty good idea of how the parks are decorated.  It will whet your appetite to come back again during the Christmas season!
