We are planning a trip to Florida and are going to Magic Kingdom for 1 day. I have 5 yr old twins (boy/girl) that want to have a character meal. I want your opinion on having breakfast out of the park at Chef Mickeys then starting our day at MK?

    Hello fellow mom of twins!

If you're willing to get up and eat very early, then your plan would work. Let me explain a bit ...

Especially if you only have one day at the Magic Kingdom, the key to avoiding the lines and enjoying the park is arriving early. For example, the line for the Dumbo ride might be 20 minutes long at 9:30 a.m. (when the park opens at 9:00) but be an hour long at 11:00 a.m. To experience much shorter wait times, you want to be at the park before the official opening time so that you're all ready to go when the entrance rope drops.

Chef Mickey's does start serving breakfast early, sometimes as early at 7:00 a.m. If you were to start your meal there before 7:30, be done in an hour (a typical length for a character meal), and get on the monorail by about 8:40, you'd be at the Magic Kingdom slightly before 9:00 and would be fine to start your day of touring. This plan assumes that the MK opens at 9:00 and does NOT have morning Extra Magic Hours (EMH) that day. If the park opens earlier than 9:00 (as often happens during busy times) or has morning EMH, then it would already be crowded by the time you arrived.

Another character meal that you could use as an alternative to Chef Mickey's would be the Crystal Palace restaurant in the Magic Kingdom. The meal features Winnie the Pooh and friends. The Crystal Palace often opens at 8:00 a.m., even when the park opens at 9:00. If you have a reservation confirmation number, cast members will let you into the park early to attend your meal. If you eat at one of the first Crystal Palace seatings, you will be done with your meal just before the park opens, and you will already be well inside the Magic Kingdom.
