Planning a trip for fall 2012 to WDW . Noticed that Columbus Day has it's own rates for the resorts. Does this mean it is one of the "peak" times. I would really like to avoid the crowds as to make this the most MAGICAL experience for my 3 yr old

Hi Brooke! Holidays often cause an increase in attendance levels in the Disney parks since many guests vacation when offices and schools are closed. Since Columbus Day is a holiday observed by some businesses and schools, it's possible that more people may visit Disney that weekend, and for that reason, higher holiday rates are in effect at the resort hotels for that three-day weekend. Like you, I try to plan my Disney World vacations during periods of lower attendance at the parks, and I think early October is a fantastic time to visit. The crowd levels are generally low to moderate during that time of year, and since many schools and businesses do not observe the Columbus Day holiday, I wouldn't expect a huge increase in park attendance that day. I like to consult the unofficial website www.TouringPlans.com, which uses historical data, holidays, and other factors to predict crowd levels at Walt Disney World. That site predicts higher crowd levels at Disney on Saturdays in October (likely due to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival), but most of the month has a low to moderate crowd forecast. Attendance levels for Columbus Day are predicted to be moderate, and not significantly different than the rest of the month.

No matter when you visit Walt Disney World, I know your three-year-old will have a magical time! If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to visit us again at the Moms Panel! We're happy to help!
