Planning trip DD5/DS7 and was wondering which week is better 4/29-5/5/12 or 5/5-5/12. I believe there's a dance competition during that first week and I wasn't sure if that impacted the crowd AND if schools get out that week at all. Which week is better?

Hi Nicole! My family has frequently visited Walt Disney World during late April and early May -- it's one of our favorite times for a Disney trip! The weather is usually beautiful then, and since most schools are still in session,  the crowd levels are quite manageable. Best of all, the gorgeous International Flower and Garden Festival is usually in full swing at Epcot at that time of year!

I don't think you'll see much difference in the park attendance levels between those two weeks. There always seems to be a convention or some group event going on at Walt Disney World, but it's a huge place so you likely won't see a significant spike in attendance from a dance competition. I like to consult the Crowd Calendar on the unofficial website TouringPlans.com, which uses historical data, school vacations, special events, and other factors to predict the park attendance levels. Both of the weeks you're contemplating appear to have fairly low to moderate crowd predictions. You'll have a great time either week!
