We are planning our third trip to WDW arriving the day after Christmas 2013. Our son's 9th bday is 12/27/13. What is the best place to take him to celebrate? Also, we will not be using the dining plan this time. Any tips on eating on a budget? Thanks

    Hi Jeff!

It sounds like you are planning a wonderful Birthday and Holiday trip for your family! Just beware: It may be hard to top a birthday that includes Walt Disney World!

To really celebrate a birthday meal at Walt Disney World, make sure you pick something totally unique to Disney! Maybe a meal with Mickey & Friends at Chef Mickey's or dining at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at Hollywood Studios. If your son likes to ham it up a bit, maybe go for a meal at 50's Prime Time Cafe where "mom" may even be sure to remind him to eat his vegetables or keep his elbows off of the table!

To make dining more affordable at Walt Disney World, I have a few tips, including trying out some of the great Quick Service restaurants throughout the parks.

For example, at Animal Kingdom both Flame Tree Barbeque and Yak & Yeti offer quick service that can easily work to feed your family. We often split meals here - they offer so much delicious food that can be shared between your family members.

At Epcot, try the quick service restaurants around World Showcase. They offer a variety of great food options that can often be split between at least two people. You can save money dining and enjoy a ton of variety at the same time!

Downtown Disney features Wolfgang Puck Express and Earl of Sandwich for really delicious and economical dining value.

And, last but not least, try having a late breakfast or late lunch as your main meal of the day. At table service restaurants, these will often be the most affordable (vs. dinner).
