I am planning a last minute trip to Disney for a few days starting on 1/1/2012 until 1/4/2012. I want to attend EMH at Magic Kingdom on the 1st but am worried about crowds. Do you expect crowds to be high on these days? What parks would be best to attend?

Hi Meaghan! A Walt Disney World vacation is such a fun way to kick off the New Year! Holidays are popular times to visit the Disney parks, and the week between Christmas and New Years Day is one of the busiest times of the year at Disney World. Attendance levels in the Magic Kingdom will likely be high on January 1, but the evening Extra Magic Hours will give Disney resort guests extra time in the park so you should be able to see and do it all if you're willing to stay up late. I've often found that the crowds do noticeably thin during the evening Extra Magic Hours so if you can stay until the 2 a.m. closing time, you'll likely be able to experience lots of attractions with less waiting than earlier that day. Since most people return to work and school on January 2nd or 3rd, I expect you'll see significantly less crowding in the parks on January 3rd and 4th. The unofficial website, www.TouringPlans.com has a Crowd Calendar that uses historical attendance data, holidays, park hours and other factors to predict attendance levels in the Disney parks. According to that site, the best parks to visit on January 1 would be Animal Kingdom, which is expected to have the least crowding, or Hollywood Studios. During your visit, you'll find the Magic Kingdom less crowded on January 2,3, and 4 than on New Years Day. January 3 or 4 are also good days to visit Hollywood Studios and Epcot from a crowd standpoint.

Wishing you a magical New Year! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We're always happy to help!
