Planning to go to StarWars weekend on Sunday May 9th. I believe this is the last day. What time do you recommend us getting to DHS, if the park opens at 8am? We are staying at POFQ. Should we rely on Disney Transportation or take a cab?Any other SWW tips?

    Jennifer,

Actually, no, the event does not end on May 9th. The event runs from May 17th through June 9th. But I am going to go out on a limb and assume you meant June 9th, since the park does open at 8 am that day (unlike May 9th, when it opens at 9 am). If that is the case, yes, you are there on the last day.

Because it is the last day, and it is a busier time of the year, I would plan for larger crowds. But know that the crowd tendency for Star Wars Weekends is to be busier at the start of the overall string of dates back in May, and they get progressively lighter towards the end.

If it were me, I would still try to be there during rope drop (park opening). They often do fun things, and who knows what the final day of Star Wars Weekends will bring. That means getting to the park by 7:45 am. I would trust in the Disney bus system in this instance, but know that the trip could take up to 45 minutes. So I would plan to be at the resort bus stop at 7:00 am.

Since you are going to be there at the end of the run, many of the 'collectibles' will be sold out. So don't go with a specific memento in mind. But definitely do some shopping. You can find some reduced prices on Disney/Star Wars themed items that hybrid the two genres together. Also, don't rush INTO the park without noticing the Stormtroopers standing on the buildings above you. They don't just patrol around, but they interact with each other and you. Finally, pick up the event-themed printed park map. It can highlight any special events and timed presentations that might occur.

And if you want to get away from it for a time, just head more toward the Sunset Boulevard area for a bit of reprieve, before heading back to the Empire!

Write me back if you have any follow-up questions!

Have a magical (and force-filled) vacation!
