Planning to go to 1 park each day. I don't want to pack a lot. Can you tell me the necessities to pack without feeling overpacked? We are taking 7 and 12 year old girls. I want them to experience most. They love all the princesses. weather will be hot.

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Mark!

I was the head vacation packer for our family of 6 for many years, so I completely understand where you are coming from.  I always want to be sure we have everything we need, without packing everything including the kitchen sink!  (That, by the way, can be found at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.)

Everyone has their personal essentials, and a quick internet search will turn up lots of Disney packing lists.  I'll be happy to share my recommendations with you.

Let's start with shoes.  Everyone should have a good pair of supportive walking shoes, like sneakers, and a backup pair as well.  I usually pack comfy athletic shoes, sandals that are comfortable for walking all day, and a pair of flip-flops.

As far as clothes, my feeling is it isn't necessary to pack multiple outfits per day.  Check the weather in advance and again right before your trip.  Unless you plan to do signature dining experiences that have a dress code, casual theme park clothes are fine pretty much everywhere.  I would bring a sweatshirt or light jacket.  At this time of year, even warm days can have chilly nights.  I do recommend doubling up on underclothes and socks.  If you decide to take a break from the parks for a swim or nap, no one will want to put sweaty socks back on!  All Disney Resort Hotels have laundry facilities available for Guest use in case that favorite Mickey tee is spilled upon.

I always pack sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat for sun protection.  I think you'll definitely want to bring swimsuits to enjoy the beautiful pools at your Resort Hotel.

I try to be somewhat minimalist with my park bag.  I don't want to feel weighed down carrying a big backpack in the heat.  I carry my phone, charging cord, and portable battery.  I keep a small zip-top bag with band-aids, blister pads, and Tylenol or Motrin.  Other items I'm sure to carry are tissues, lip balm, and hand sanitizer.  On warmer days, it is important to stay hydrated so I'll also carry a water bottle.  Florida does experience frequent downpours at some times of the year, so a poncho or other rain gear is helpful.  Lockers are available in each park and are a good place to stash sweatshirts and jackets, extra sunscreen and perhaps some snacks.

Many items such as over-the-counter medications, toiletries, and other vacation essentials can be found in merchandise locations at your resort hotel and in the theme parks, so if you discover you forgot something you'll likely be able to find what you need.

Mark, I wish you and your family the most wonderful vacation!  Please let us know if you have any additional questions.  We are always happy to help.
