We are planning our first visit to WDW but we are not staying at the Disney resorts. Where is the best place to stay that offers shuttle to the Disney parks and downtown Disney?

Hi, Crystal!  You will find a lot of hotels in the Walt Disney World area that are off property.  The thing you'll want to keep in mind is that many off property hotels that offer shuttle service may have a shuttle that runs only at certain times during the day, and may drop you off at the transportation and ticket center.  From there, you can take Walt Disney World resort transportation to just about anywhere else.

You should first look at hotels in the Downtown Disney resort area.  All are within walking distance to Downtown Disney and some, such as the Doubletree, offer continuous shuttles to all of the theme parks.  Shuttle service here is complimentary.  The Holiday Inn also offers complimentary service to all four theme parks, and they run on a 30 minute schedule throughout the day.

There are quite a few hotels in the Marriott chain just outside the Downtown Disney area.  Many of them have free shuttles, but some do charge a per person fee.  The Marriott World Center has a $15 per person fee to the transportation and ticket center at Walt Disney World.  You also have to reserve your spot on the shuttle, which runs at 90 minute intervals.  The Courtyard nearby has free shuttle service to transportation and ticket center.

Your best bet is to choose where you would like to stay, and make a phone call or check the web page.  In some cases, you may find yourself with a free breakfast, but then have to pay quite a bit of money out in shuttle fees.

I hope this helps get you started!
