We are planning our first visit in January 2013....and we know nothing! Do dining reservations really need to be made before we get there? I hate to choose that now, without knowing all that is available...or even the time we'll be hungry?

Congratulations on your first Walt Disney World vacation, Mandy!  Rest assured, you've come to the right place!  I can completely understand your concern in keeping flexibility in your vacation schedule. With that being said, I would recommend making a few Advanced Dining Reservations for your upcoming trip. I have found that it can be quite difficult to find availability at many of the table-service restaurants without an Advanced Dining Reservation. When planning our meals, I like to first make an itinerary for our trip so that I can book Advanced Dining Reservations at restaurants located in the same park that we will be visiting. With four children myself, I traditionally book one Advanced Dining Reservation per day so that I know we will have one sit-down meal, but also flexibility. Guests do not need Advanced Dining Reservations for quick-service restaurants. I would recommend visiting the independent website allears.net to view their extensive list of menus for all of the Walt Disney World restaurants. The list is organized by theme park or resort which makes for easier researching. You may also want to consider booking a Character Dining Experience for your upcoming trip in which you will be greeted table side by several Disney Characters as you enjoy a delicious meal. Guests may book Advanced Dining Reservations by calling (407) WDW-DINE or by going online here. I hope this information helps!  Please feel free to visit me again if you would like dining recommendations or have any additional questions. I would love to assist you in planning a magical first Walt Disney World vacation, Mandy!
    Happy Planning,
