We are planning our first trip to WDW for the first week of January 2010. How are the crowds during that time of year? Also, the weather. What is it usually like?

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are high peak crowd times at WDW; but immediately after that there is a precipitous drop in the crowd level. In 2010, the week beginning January 3 should have blissfully low to moderate crowds.

The temperature in January, while chilly by Florida standards, is usually quite nice for park touring. The average daytime highs are in the low 70s and average nighttime lows are in the low 50s. Bear in mind that these are just averages. I have been to WDW several times in January. Once, I experienced full-on shorts weather with temps in the 80s. On another January trip, the day time temperature never reached much above 60. While I didn't do a swimming on that trip, I was very comfortable walking around the parks during the day wearing jeans and a sweatshirt.

My suggestion would be to give a look at the forecast on weather.com a few days before your trip so you'll have a better sense of what to expect during the time of your visit.
