Planning first trip with group to WDW in late August 2016. Is there free dining that time? We can change dates if need. I heard you can book package, then call and add free dining later. Is this true? What is the best way to get a free dining package?

Hi, Melinda!  Free dining is not offered during a set period of time.  There are no free dining guarantees, so we don't know at this point whether it will be offered at all during 2016 or during which time frame.  Historically, you can see it's been offered during off peak seasons, like the end of August or early September, but the dates can change or it can be not offered at all.

Here's the thing with booking a package, then adding free dining later.  The free dining promotion is limited to a certain number of reservations, and if you already have a package booked, you will have to rebook your package to a room with the free dining promotion.  Now, this can be somewhat seamless.  You may be able to book the exact type of package, including the exact type of room you already had, so it will seem as if you've just added the free dining.  However, there is always a chance that the room you've booked already won't have a free dining package available.  In those cases, you will have to choose a different room type or resort location if you want the free dining.

I would say that if you want to go in late August, you may want to book the package so you don't miss out on the room you want.  If the free dining promotion is offered,  you can always call in (or have your travel agent call in) and try to change the package to include the dining.

In the mean time, I'll keep my fingers crossed that the promotion comes out in time for your trip!
