We are planning our first trip to DW for the last week in Oct. We will be celebrating my b-day as well as our baby girls angel day anniversary. We were thinking about doing a butterfly release in memory of her - how does this work, cost, etc? Thanks!

Hi, Brett and Kelly!  I first want to tell you how very sorry I am for what must be a devastating loss!  This must be a bittersweet vacation for your family, but I hope that the healing in your hearts is aided by some of the magic at Walt Disney World.

I did some extensive searching for you, and Walt Disney World does not typically do a butterfly release, so this is not something the resort or the theme parks can help you to arrange.  There is a butterfly release that takes place during the Flower and Garden festival at EPCOT, but those dates don't correspond to the dates you'll be traveling.

As to whether or not you can bring your own butterflies for the purpose of release, the answer was that they do not allow animals into the theme parks or at the resorts - not even butterflies meant for this purpose.  What you can do, however, is release the butterflies in a public area outside of the theme parks or resorts.  If you do a search for Orlando butterfly release, you will find packages from $50 up to over $400.

If I might suggest another alternative.  There is a wonderful organization in Orlando that is near and dear to the hearts of many of us Moms.  It's called Give Kids the World, and they help make possible dream vacations for seriously ill children.  They have a program where you can purchase a paving stone for $200, which will be placed on their Avenue of the Angels.  You can have the stone inscribed with whatever you wish, and not only is it a beautiful way to memorialize your baby girl, but it will also help another child in the process.

My heartfelt prayers go out to your family!
