We're planning our first trip to Disney World in January. One of the days we'll be there will be on MLK day (Jan. 19). Should we avoid the parks that day? Also, what are the crowds typically like in mid-January? Thanks!

I have been at WDW over MLK weekend in 2007 and 2008 and just booked a trip for that weekend in 2009. The level of crowds you will experience that weekend will have quite a bit to do with the weather. In 2007 that weekend was in the mid-70s and sunny. I'd say the crowds were moderate. In 2008, it was in the 50s and drizzly rain. It was the least crowded I ever saw WDW. I was walking around the World Showcase in Epcot at about 7:30 p.m. and for a large stretch saw literally no other guests. Overall, my experience is that whatever the weather, MLK crowds will be at least a third less (if not more), than the crowds over Presidents Week, less than a month later.

All this is a long way of telling you that you've chosen a great time to visit WDW. There is nothing you should avoid during your trip.

Hope you have a great visit!
