Planning our first trip for December 2016. Son will be 4.5 and daughter almost 6. We want to decide if it's best to go during Christmas (being there on Christmas and our her 6th birthday) or pay a bit less, have somewhat less crowds and go week before

    Hi there Alicia!

How exciting to be planning your first Walt Disney World vacation! December is my favorite time of the year to visit as all of the parks and resorts are beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Being able to celebrate your daughter's birthday will make the trip even more magical.

Having vacationed many times during the month of December, I would personally recommend visiting one week prior to Christmas due to the larger crowds you will most likely experience during the week of Christmas. Because it will be your first Walt Disney World vacation, I believe you will be able to experience more of the attractions and shows when the parks are less crowded. Rest assured, you can still celebrate your daughter's birthday even if you are there one week prior to her special day. In fact, we have done the same many times in the past for our four children. You will not be asked for any documentation of her actual birthday. Simply visit the front desk of your Disney Resort hotel or Guest Relations in any theme park and ask for a birthday celebration button. She can wear her birthday button throughout your vacation if she would like and will love all of the birthday wishes she will receive from Cast Members and other guests.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please don't hesitate to stop by again with any additional questions that you may have. I would love to assist you further in the planning of a magical first trip, Alicia!

    Happy Celebrating,
    Jodie
