We're planning our first trip back to Orlando since the switch to Multipass and I'm confused about booking LL ahead of time. To pre-book our Lightning Lanes, does that mean I have to have pre-purchased LLMP for every day of our trip ahead of time?

    Hi Jason!

Welcome back to planDisney! I’m so glad you have another Disney World countdown going!

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is quite a bit different than Genie+, but I promise it’s easy once you start using it. You will actually purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass at the same time you’re booking your Lightning Lane pre-selections.  Here’s how it will all work:

If you’re staying at a Disney World resort or select good neighbor hotel, your Lightning Lane purchasing/booking window for your entire trip will open at 7 AM Eastern, 7 days prior to your resort check-in date. If you’re staying off property, that window will open at 7 AM Eastern, 3 days prior to the start date of your ticket (for date-based tickets).

On the morning your booking window opens, you’ll hop on your My Disney Experience app, click the Purchase button under Lightning Lane Multi Pass/Single Pass, and follow the prompts.

First, you will choose the date you want to purchase the service for. Then you’ll choose the park you want to book your Lightning Lane Multi Pass pre-selections at and up to two Lightning Lane Single Passes (if you'd like) pending availability.

From there, you will confirm your party and choose your 3 Lightning Lane pre-selections for Lightning Lane Multi Pass. If the times you’re initially given won’t work with your itinerary, you can try to modify the return times to see if any other available times will work for you.

Quick tip: I’ve found that if you have dining reservations, it will affect the return times that the app will give you for Lightning Lanes. So, if you have a breakfast reservation and you’re hoping for early morning return times, it might not allow you to book your pre-selections during that time.

Once you have everything as you want it, you will purchase the service for that park day. You will need to repeat these steps for each park you want to purchase Lightning Lanes for. So, each park day will be a separate transaction.

If you want to fine-tune your Lightning Lane return times after booking them, you’re more than welcome to modify your Lightning Lanes at any time leading up to your trip (pending availability).

It’s good to note that you can actually go through the first couple of steps of this process before your booking window opens (you can even hop on the app today to try it out!). That way, you can get used to what the screens look like, and you can gauge how much the service will cost per day as your trip gets closer.

As you continue to plan your trip, let us know if you have any other Lightning Lane questions – or any questions for that matter! We’re always happy to help!
