I am planning our first family vacation in June. I have seen and read a little about the photo pass discs that can be purchased. Can we still get character pics with our own camera? What would be the benefit to purchasing one vs. not? Thank you in advance!

    Hi Jenny,

You can absolutely bring your own camera and take photos throughout Walt Disney World. I normally bring three different cameras with me when I enter the Disney parks: my cell phone camera, a pocket-sized digital, and a large digital SLR. Depending on the situation, I use them all throughout my stay.

In additional to my personal cameras, I also often use PhotoPass. PhotoPass photographers are stationed at key points in the parks. They are professional photographers, so sometimes they have a better handle on how to deal with challenging lighting situations than I do. However, the big bonus is that PhotoPass will take pictures of your entire family. When I take the photos, of course I'm not in them. I love that we can also have some shot with the whole gang. Also, there are some special trick photos that the PhotoPass photographers can set up for you. For example, having your kids hold Tinker Bell in their hands.

If you go to the independent website StitchKingdom.com you can find the "Definitive Guide" to PhotoPass which will show you examples of many of the PhotoPass options. I think you'll be able to make a well-informed decision after looking at that site.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
