Planning our first family trip to WDW with an 8yo. For Animal Kingdom she has Kilimanjaro Safaris and Expedition Everest both as top priorities. Which would you suggest hitting first after rope drop?

Hello there, Matthew! Greetings and welcome back to planDisney! Thank you so much for taking the time to reach back out and ask another wonderful Walt Disney World Resort vacation question!

Congratulations on planning your very first visit to Walt Disney World Resort! In just a few short weeks, you and your family will be busy making so many magical memories and experiencing all the wonder that comes along with a first-time visit!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a theme park that captures the wild wonder of nature through captivating interactions with wild animals, educational programming, and adventurous attractions

Two of the most popular attractions in Disney’s Animal Kingdom are Kilimanjaro Safaris and Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain. Both offer very different experiences but you do not want to miss out on either! Kilimanjaro Safaris takes Guests on a wild ride through an African savanna where you have the opportunity to see over 34 species of animals that call the 110 acres of land home. Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is a high-speed attraction that journeys deep into the land of the Yeti in hopes of coming face to face with this massive, legendary creature. One thing’s for sure, be prepared for a day filled with fun during your upcoming visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Based on previous experiences, it is most efficient to experience Kilimanjaro Safaris as soon as possible after the park opens. This strategy will most likely decrease the amount of time you will wait in line and also tends to be the time in which the animals are the most active. Typically, my own family heads back to this attraction at “rope drop” and, after our tour, we head over to Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain for a quick trip through the Himalayans!

I hope you have an absolutely magical vacation to Walt Disney World Resort! Please let us know if we can assist you in planning any parts of your upcoming stay!
