Planning our first ever cruise and am confused about staterooms, My husband and I and my adult son his wife and 1 child, as non of us have been on a cruise before, wondering if paying more for adjoining rooms is worth it?

    Hello, Jennifer! Welcome aboard planDisney!

I’m so excited to hear that you’re planning your very first Disney Cruise! With sparkling seas ahead and pixie dust around every corner, you’re in for a truly unforgettable voyage. And how wonderful to be sailing with your adult son, his wife, and their little one; multigenerational cruises are such a special way to make magical memories together.

When it comes to choosing staterooms, I completely understand your question, especially for first-time cruisers. Disney Cruise Line offers several options that could work well for your crew. Some staterooms, such as the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, can sleep up to five Guests and include a queen-size bed, convertible sofa, pull-down bunk, and a Murphy bed, depending on the configuration. These are thoughtfully designed for comfort, but with multiple adults and a little one, having a bit more space can definitely enhance everyone’s relaxation.

This is where connecting staterooms come in. Unlike adjoining rooms (which are simply next door or across the hall), connecting staterooms have a shared internal door between them. This allows for easy access while still providing the option for privacy. For families traveling together, they offer the perfect blend of togetherness and personal space. And yes, many Guests feel they are well worth the upgrade! If you’re considering verandah staterooms, another fun tip: if your rooms are connecting and both have verandahs, your stateroom host can open the partition between the balconies for a shared outdoor space. It’s a lovely way to enjoy the sea breeze together!

If you’d prefer to keep costs lower, adjoining oceanview staterooms with portholes might be a great option as well (by the way, the FAQ page on the DCL website does a great job of explaining all the different stateroom categories). Just be sure to work with a travel agent or Disney Cruise Line directly to request rooms next to one another, and ask that your reservations be linked. That way, you’ll be able to coordinate excursions and dining more easily. One last tip: Book as early as possible, especially if you’d like connecting rooms, as they’re popular and tend to go quickly.

Jennifer, I hope this helps you chart the course for smooth sailing! If you have more questions along the way, we’re always here to help. Wishing you a voyage filled with laughter, family time, and plenty of Mickey ice cream bars.

    Bon voyage!
