I am planning our first Disney vacation the last week in April. We will be there a few days before my son turns 3! Which character meals do you suggest for little boys! We are definitely doing Chef Mickeys, but what else? Is mickey backyard bbq worth it?

    Shannon,

Mickey's Backyard BBQ is a great dinner show. There is a live band, good food, and dancing with the characters. However in your case I would recommend against it. Why?

We went the first time with my youngest when she was a month shy of 3, and we had some issues. She, and her older sister (5 at the time) had a hard time dancing with the characters due to so many other, larger kids jostling them around. Nobody was misbehaving, they were just bigger kids and my little ones got bumped in the excitement and commotion. They also couldn't understand why they could not get character autographs there.

I would recommend instead Tusker House. It is the only dining experience my kids insist on every year. Don't worry about the repeating of Mickey characters, it is still a great time. I also think that the 1900 Park Fare breakfast can be good for a younger boy, and the food is vastly underrated.

Finally, while they are not character meals, per se, I think he would like Whispering Canyon Cafe and 50s Prime Time Cafe as well. The servers are characters, and it can be very fun, with better than average food.

Write me back if you need more ideas!

Have a magical (and delicious) vacation!
