Ahoy Randi!
Isn't it a great feeling knowing you have a magical voyage in the near future? You will be surprised at how quickly the months will fly by, and it will be your family's turn to set sail on the stunning Disney Fantasy!
A cruise vacation is the perfect time to disconnect, but I completely understand wanting to be aware of what's going on back home. Many Guests bring their laptops or iPads onboard and purchase internet minutes to stay in touch. You can "pay as you go" or select an
internet package depending on your level of activity. If you don't bring a computer or tablet onboard, you can stop by Guest Services on Deck Three or the Cove Cafe on Deck 11 (adults-only) to borrow a WiFi-enabled laptop. Last time I sailed, there was only a deposit required to borrow these devices, but you will still need to pay for your time online.
Cell phones can be used, but I recommend contacting your service provider before leaving home to check for the rates and fees that will apply because they are much higher on sea than on land. When I visited St. Thomas, I was able to use my cell phone because AT&T considers this island as part of their domestic plan so definitely check your carrier to see if this is the case for you as well.
If there is an emergency back home, your friends or family can reach you by calling 1-888-DC-AT-SEA. Satellite telephone rates will apply if a shore to ship call is made. The same case being if you call home from the telephones onboard.
I'm glad you stopped by with your question, Randi! If you think of anything else, please write back! I'm always happy to help!
Have a magical day!
Nancy
