Planning a DL trip in August. I see the new system “multi pass” will replace Genie+ on July 24, but the DL app is still selling Genie+. What skip the line service will be used in August? Is there a benefit to buying the service ahead of time, or day of?

Hello there Elizabeth!  How exciting that your trip to the "Happiest Place on Earth" is coming up so soon!

The great news about Disney Genie+ Service changing names beginning July 24, 2024, is that only the name is changing!  Disney Genie+ Service will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and Individual Lightning Lane entrance access will become Lightning Lane Single Pass.  The functionality of both services will not be changing at the Disneyland Resort which is great news for Guests!

During your trip, you will be able to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass as well as Lightning Lane Single Passes.  If riding attractions is a priority for your family, and you definitely know that you'll want to purchase the service, then I would go ahead and purchase it ahead of time with your theme park ticket purchase.  After you scan your theme park tickets for entrance, you can open up the Disneyland app and begin making your Lightning Lane selections!  It also guarantees in advance that you'll be able to purchase the service, since there can be busy days at the parks where it does sell out.  It is unlikely that it will sell out, but I always recommend purchasing it in advance if that's an option with your theme park tickets.

Our priority Lightning Lane selections we usually make early in the day include Indiana Jones Adventure in Disneyland Park, and Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! in Disney California Adventure Park.  These are popular selections, and we like to know that we can secure those selections early in the day.  For any days that you'll be visiting the theme parks, I highly recommend arriving early, even before the parks open to take advantage of the lighter crowds in the morning!

I hope this helps answer your question, Elizabeth!  I'm happy to help answer any other planning questions you may have, so feel free to come back to planDisney and follow-up with me directly.  I'm here to help!

    Have a magical day,
