Hi Ken, and welcome to planDisney! It sounds like you have a galactic adventure planned and I’m happy to help figure out the best way to get your bounty back to your home planet.
In my experience, it’s most cost-effective to ship items together. But that doesn’t mean you need to buy everything at one time! Disney makes it really easy. Just keep your receipts, and you can ship your precious cargo together from most Disney World gift shops, including the ones in
Disney Resort hotels. I had to do this on my last day once when I realized my purchases weren’t going to fit in my luggage!
This also means you can enjoy your lightsabers and droids throughout your vacation before sending them on their journey home. One time, my sister and I even took our droids to Magic Kingdom for a photoshoot! But there’s plenty of fun to be had right in
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
There’s usually an area across from
Droid Depot with a large mat on the ground where you can take your droids for a spin. And you’ll definitely want to take some pictures with your new lightsabers and droid buddies! Ask the
PhotoPass photographers about
Magic Shots for some galactic surprises, and come back in the evening to get epic nighttime shots with your glowing lightsabers. If you’re interested in more time with a PhotoPass photographer, you might be interested in a personalized 20-minute
Capture Your Moment session.
Now, let’s talk about making your very own lightsabers and droids! Building a lightsaber with the Gatherers at
Savi’s Workshop is such a special experience. Since it’s popular, be sure to make your reservation as soon as your booking window opens. If you’re a Disney Resort hotel guest, you can
book dining reservations and activities 60 days before check-in for your entire length of stay (up to a 10-night stay). All other guests can book 60 days in advance.
You no longer need a reservation for Droid Depot, where you can make a custom astromech, so you’re good to go there! My recommendation would be to take your time when picking droid parts from the conveyor belt and savor your time in the workshop. Once you’ve chosen the pieces, the rest of the building process goes pretty quickly.
And no visit to Batuu would be complete without stopping by the local watering hole,
Oga’s Cantina! This is another popular reservation you’ll want to secure right when your booking window opens. While you’re bopping to the beats of DJ R-3X, you can order a drink and relax after your galactic adventure! Oga’s recently got some new food, and one of my favorites is the Thruster Roasted Bantha Flatbread. Many of the drinks also come in fun mugs, which make great souvenirs. I use the Loth-cat mug as a mini vase for flowers at home!
I hope you have a safe journey to Batuu and may the force be with you. If you have any other questions, we’d love to have you back at planDisney!
