    We are planning a Disney trip October 2013. We have heard good things about Port Orleans. I was wondering if French Quarter or Riverside (Royal Rooms) would be a better option. We are a family of 5, 2 adults, will have 2 DD-5 & 2 and DS- 4. Thanks.

    Jessica,

    Really, either is fine. They originally were just one resort, thus the naming of Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter.

    Here are the key differences;

    Riverside has two themes. Alligator Bayou is like being in the bayous of Louisiana in a more rustic and scenic setting. Magnolia Bend is more like a series of Antebellum mansions. The Royal Rooms you mention are in the Magnolia Bend section of the Riverside resort. It is the larger of the two resorts, and has more amenities and activities. It also has more extensive dining, though not by much.

    The French Quarter is themed to the famed district in New Orleans, and is a much smaller property. It does not have as many things to do, but it has a quieter setting, which can be a plus.

    With kids your ages I would think that Port Orleans Riverside would be a better option. There are more on-resort activities right outside their door. Of course with the resorts being adjacent it is not like you would not be able to walk from French Quarter to enjoy the added dining and other activities. But as a whole I think Riverside would just be a better call.

    As for the Royal rooms, I have not stayed in one yet. HOWEVER they seem to be AMAZING, so if you can afford the added cost, I would do that in a heartbeat!

    Write me back if I can help you with other aspects of your planning!

    Have a magical vacation!
