I am planning a Disney Trip for May 2012, Haven't booked anything yet still in the preliminaries. The last two times I booked through Disney Online. Wondering if it is cheaper to go through an Agent or do it myself. I like to look at my reservations.

    Chere,

As far as the price, you could get the same rates by booking either way. The big advantage to using a travel agent is that they will continue to look at prices for you, and if a better deal comes along, they can help you get that instead. If you do the booking yourself, then you will have to continue scouring for deals yourself, too.

I'm a type-A Disney planner (as you might have guessed!) and I always, always, always wanted to make all of my own plans. However, a few years ago I tried using a travel agent who specializes in Disney, and I was very pleased! They booked a trip for me for later this year, and just a few weeks ago he emailed to let me know that we could save a significant amount of money if we switched to a different (within the same value level) resort. I was happy to switch for the savings!

This reservation still shows on the Disney website, so every time I log in I get to see that beautiful vacation countdown ticker greeting me. The only difference is that I cannot modify the reservation on the Disney website; that would have to be done through the agent who booked the stay.

So if 'seeing' is enough for you, you will still be able to see it. And if you'd like to make all of your own dining reservations, you can definitely do that! I think using a travel agent (preferably one who specializes in Disney vacations) is the best of both worlds. They focus on the much appreciated but less exciting savings aspect, and you get to plan the fun details. Win-win!
