Planning a 5-day trip in October with 5 and 7 year old kids. Want two days at MK and 1 day at AK and 1 day at HS. Is it a mistake to skip Epcot? What does Epcot have for my kids (not princess-themed things - not going to interest them.) Thank you.

Hi, Kelley!  EPCOT appeals to some kids, but definitely not to others.  When I travel with my brother and his boys, they'd be happy to skip EPCOT entirely, while my girls are huge fans.

I don't know how tall your kids are, but my just turned 8 year old has been tall enough to do things like Test Track, Mission: Space, and Soarin' for the past two years.  Those are all things we really enjoy.  My kids love the Living with the Land boat ride, which gives a behind the scenes look at how the EPCOT gardens grow.  It's a great lesson in sustainable farming.

We also really enjoy the shows at the various countries around the World Showcase.  My kids do actual belly laughs in the UK when the comedy troupe performs, and my oldest daughter used to kick up her heels and do an Irish reel or a jig with Off Kilter, the bagpipe rock band outside Canada.

If your kids are more into characters, or if riding attractions are more their style, they may be disappointed in EPCOT.  If they enjoy some hands on activities such as those offered at Innoventions, or if it's important to you that they learn something about different cultures, then it's definitely worth checking it out.

I'll also tell you that some of the best international dining experiences are at EPCOT!  If you happen to get park hopper passes, it may be worth it to just pop in for dinner and Illuminations one night!

    Have a great vacation, Kelley!
