I am planning a day at the parks with a friend who has a season pass. He has a rez at MK and wants to book LLMP for that night. Can we go to AK first without lightning lanes even though he had to reserve MK.

    Hey there, Jason!

I'm so happy to welcome you to planDisney, and thanks for bringing your question our way! Your summertime visit to Walt Disney World Resort will be here before you know it, so let's dive right in and help with your planning.

You are absolutely able to purchase Lightning Lane passes for Magic Kingdom while starting your day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The only thing to keep in mind is that your friend will need to modify their theme park reservation to Animal Kingdom since that will be the first park you plan to visit.

Once you’ve enjoyed your morning at Animal Kingdom, you’ll be able to park hop over to Magic Kingdom and use your Lightning Lane selections there. Your friend can update their park reservation through the My Disney Experience app by navigating to “My Plans.” From there, select the reservation they’d like to modify and follow the prompts to make the change.

This is actually a great strategy! Mornings at Animal Kingdom can often be a little quieter, which means you may be able to experience some of your favorite attractions with shorter wait times before the crowds build. Then, when you make your way over to Magic Kingdom, your Lightning Lane selections will already be lined up and ready to go, allowing you to make the most of your afternoon!

Remember, if you're staying at a Disney Resort, you'll be able to purchase your Lightning Lane passes beginning 7 days before your check-in date. If you're not staying on property, you can purchase them 3 days before each park visit.

Jason, I hope this helps and that you have the very best trip! If any more questions come up, you’re always welcome here at planDisney!
