We are planning on coming in late Sept. It will be my husband, myself and 2 sons ages 11 and 17. If we can't afford both park hopper and water park, which is best? This will be our first trip.

Hi, Stacie!  I think this is entirely up to your family and how you like to spend your vacation.  I am not typically a park hopping kind of person, so if I posed this question to my girls, they'd much rather have the water parks option than a park hopper option.  In most cases, once I arrive at a theme park, there's so much I want to do there, it rarely gives me time to go somewhere else.

If you think you'd like to do some park hopping, which can be really useful for revisiting things you might have missed or things you want to make sure you do again, that may be a better buy for your family.  I know lots of people who like to do one park for extra magic hours in the morning, then hop to the park with evening extra magic hours, so they can maximize their time in the theme parks.  There are also families who like to add time at the Magic Kingdom, so they might do Animal Kingdom in the morning, then hop to the Magic Kingdom to give their kids extra time there.

Weigh out which option your family would get the most use out of, and then you'll know which one is the better option for you.

I hope you have a magical vacation!
