    We are planning to celebrate my granddaughter's 2nd birthday in Magic Kingdom. Is there anything special we can do for her on her first trip to the park? And is there a cost for children under 3 years old?

    What a wonderful and MAGICAL way to celebrate a birthday! I'm sure this will be a special day you'll all remember forever!

    First, the easy (and good) answer: Children under 3 do not need a park ticket to enter the Walt Disney World Parks. This means she'll be free on her 2nd birthday!

    For the fun part of your question - Absolutely!! The very first thing to do is pick up a Birthday button when you enter the Magic Kingdom. This button can be found at Guest Services in Town Hall. While the button doesn't automatically "give" you anything, its a fun way to let Cast Members (and other guests too) know that you're celebrating a special day. Anything is possible when everyone knows its your birthday - we've had the most wonderful birthday wishes given to us, sometimes a special dessert or ice cream cone may find its way to her or even a special experience such as riding up front at Small World. The possibilities are endless!

    If you'd like to take a little more control over the celebration, Disney restaurants also offer a (paid) birthday cake that can be ordered at the podium at any sit-down restaurant. Custom cakes - the sky is the limit - can be arranged in advance as well (407-827-2253).

    During one of my daughter's favorite birthday celebrations at Walt Disney World, we had used iron-on decals to make her a birthday t-shirt. Her favorite rides were on the front and "It's My Birthday" was on the back. A Cast Member noticed and made sure we were escorted right to the front of the line for one of the rides. Such a fun and memorable experience that could not have happened anywhere else on earth!
