I am planning to build a lightsaber at Savi’s workshop and I understand that the lightsaber comes with the long blade (I think 31 inches?). Is it possible or am I able to ask a cast member when I’m there to ask to build with a shorter blade (26 inches)?

    Hello there, Judy!

The Force is strong with you. You’re ready to take the next step in your galactic journey by crafting your very own lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop. I’d be happy to help guide you on your path to building an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.

When it comes to customization, you’ll have plenty of options to ensure your saber reflects your personal connection to the Force. While the blade length is standardized at 31 inches, the hilt length will depend on the components you choose during your build. As you piece together your hilt, you’ll select from a variety of sleeves, emitters, pommel caps, and activation plates and switches. Depending on your design choices, your finished hilt will likely range between 10 and 13 inches long.

As a lightsaber builder myself, I can confirm that the completed hilt and blade fit comfortably inside the included carrying case, which measures about 50 inches in length. Plus, once your build is complete, the blade and hilt can be separated, making it much easier to stow your saber when you’re making the jump to lightspeed—or just packing for your return trip home.

If you’re open to exploring other ways to arm yourself, I highly recommend a visit to Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities. This legendary Ithorian collector’s shop is a treasure trove of rare artifacts from across the galaxy; some with stories so wild, even the cantina regulars would question their truth. Dok-Ondar frequently stocks an impressive selection of legacy lightsabers once wielded by some of the most iconic figures in Star Wars lore. You may find hilts with different designs or even shorter blade options that better fit your preferences. And here’s a little Q-Tip: make sure to glance up at the upper alcove of the shop. Rumor has it there are a few well-hidden Easter eggs, including a gleaming tribute to the galaxy’s most famous Gungan. I think you’ll enjoy that discovery!

One more thing, Judy! If your travels bring you to Batuu between March 28th and May 11th, you won’t want to miss the return of Seasons of the Force at Disneyland. This limited-time celebration will immerse you in all things Star Wars, with exclusive galactic grub, themed merchandise, and special entertainment. The Disney Parks Blog recently revealed some thrilling transmissions, including the debut of a brand-new nighttime projection spectacular, Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga, launching March 28. This awe-inspiring show will light up the spires of Black Spire Outpost with scenes from across the Skywalker legacy, all set to the unforgettable music of John Williams. But that’s not all! There’s another disturbance in the Force. A certain shadowy Jedi, one of the most legendary to ever ignite a lightsaber, will be making his first appearance in Galaxy’s Edge.

I hope this helps you feel fully prepared for your visit to Black Spire Outpost, Judy! If you’d like any more galactic guidance, feel free to send a holo transmission my way, or reach out to any of my fellow planDisney panelists.

May the Force be with you…always.
