I am planning a 16th birthday trip for my son. We want to do the Keys to the Kingdom tour the week we are there. My son turns 16 officially 2 days after we would return from the trip. Will he be allowed to do the tour if he is a few days short of 16?

    Hiya, Jamie!

Welcome to planDisney, and thanks for stopping by! As Mickey would say, “Hot dog!” What a magical way to celebrate your son’s 16th birthday with a Walt Disney World vacation. That’s a milestone he’ll never forget!

The Keys to the Kingdom Tour is such a special experience, especially for teens who have grown up loving the magic of the parks. It really does feel like a rite of passage. My youngest son had it at the very top of his wish list, and we made sure to take him last summer just after he turned 16. Exploring the backstage areas, learning about the Utilidors, and hearing all the behind-the-scenes stories made it such a memorable day for both of us.

That said, I want to gently mention that when we checked in for the tour at Tony’s Town Square, the Cast Members were very clear and firm about the age requirement. They even asked to see ID, so I was glad my son had both his passport and driver’s permit with him. Since your son’s birthday falls just two days after your trip, I would be cautious about booking the tour early, as there’s a chance he may not be allowed to participate. I know that’s probably not the answer you were hoping for, and I completely understand wanting to make his birthday extra special.

If rescheduling the tour for a future trip isn’t an option, you might want to consider another unique experience for this trip, but something still unforgettable! My boys absolutely loved the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It’s full of adventure, includes behind-the-scenes elements, and gives Guests the chance to walk across rope bridges and get up close with amazing animals. Plus, the minimum age is 8, so there’s more flexibility there.

And don’t forget to stop by any Guest Relations location to pick up a complimentary birthday button for your son. Cast Members and even fellow Guests love to join in the celebration!

Jamie, I hope this helps as you plan such a meaningful trip. If you have any more questions about tours, parks, or birthday ideas, we’re always here to help.

Wishing you a magical celebration filled with unforgettable memories,
    Eean
