Hello! We are planning a birthday trip for my daughter this year. She will be 2 on check in day, but turning 3 during our trip. Do we need to get her tickets and lightening lanes or is she considered 2 for the whole trip?

Hi there, Lizzy! On behalf of my friends at planDisney, happy birthday to your little Disney princess! Celebrating birthdays at Disney World makes for such a magical experience! I’ll share a special birthday tip with you in just a moment, but I’ll answer your question first!

When visiting the Disney Parks – Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom – Guests ages three and older must have valid theme park admission. This includes Guests who turn three during their Disney World vacation.

Your daughter will not need a theme park ticket if you visit any theme park before she turns three. However, she would need theme park tickets and Lightning Lane passes for any day after she turns three.

Lizzy, I like to say that my three boys “grew up” in the Disney Parks! We began taking them to visit Mickey and Minnie before they turned a year old, and we’ve continued ever since. During our many visits, Cast Members never inquired about the age of our children. They are pretty good about recognizing ages. While I don’t think you’ll need it, I recommend taking a photo of your daughter’s birth certificate to have on your phone.

Now for that special birthday tip! During your visit, be sure to get a complimentary “Happy Birthday” button! These can be picked up at Guest Relations at any Disney Park as well as at your Disney World hotel! Consider it a birthday gift from Mickey to your little girl!

If your little Mouseketeer has a favorite Disney character, you might consider booking a Character Dining experience to celebrate her special day! My twin sons are now 20 but still talk about having dinner with Timon and Rafiki for their sixth birthday! Also, on their birthday, I took the boys for a quick morning walk around the resort while my wife stayed back to decorate the room with some simple decorations we had packed in our suitcase. The boys loved celebrating their birthday at Disney World! I’m sure your little girl will remember this trip for years to come!

    Dreams do come true!
