Hello, I’m planning a Disney trip in October 2027 for my son’s 3rd birthday. If we check in while he’s still 2 is he considered 2 for the duration of the trip, or will be considered 3 on and after his birthday?

Hi, Nadia, and please allow me to warmly welcome you back to planDisney! How wonderful that you're planning a trip to celebrate your son's 3rd birthday! It sounds like you'll be at Walt Disney World on his actual birthday, which makes it even more special. I'm so glad you've brought your question to us.

It sounds like you're already aware that kids under the age of 3 are considered to be Guests of Mickey Mouse himself and are free. That being said, once your child turns 3, he is considered 3, even if his birthday falls during your trip. This means that on and after his 3rd birthday, he will need his own Disney Theme Park admission and will be considered a child for any Disney dining and hotel stays within the Disney Resorts Collection.

This may not be the answer you were hoping for, but I still can think of nothing better than celebrating your son's birthday at The Most Magical Place on Earth. Be sure to pick up a complimentary Happy Birthday button at your Disney hotel, at Guest Services within the Disney Theme Parks or at a merchandise location. Cast Members and fellow Disney Guests alike love to extend birthday greetings.

Nadia, I hope you and your son have an amazing birthday trip. Please visit us again here at planDisney with any other planning questions.

    Let your dreams guide you!
