Hi Erica!
Thanks for coming back to visit us with your question! I'm so excited you’re returning to the Walt Disney World Resort. Winter is a perfect time to visit and escape from the cold weather in New Jersey. February is also extra magical as princesses from around the country arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort for
runDisney’s Princess Half Marathon. This is the race encouraged me to begin running after my last child was born. When I heard a I could dress up like a princess and run through Cinderella Castle, I was all in! In case the running (or fast walking) fever strikes you, there are still slots available for the Half Marathon and Kids Races.
On Saturday, February 22, 2019, runners will compete in the Enchanted 10K. While it is always possible that
runDisney could alter the route of the course, in every prior year this race has been held in the Epcot area, so a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom should be mostly unaffected. The Princess Half Marathon on Sunday, February 23, 2019, should begin in the Epcot area, and the highlight of the event is run through the Magic Kingdom. With a traditional race start of 5:30 am, even the last runners should be already through the Magic Kingdom before 9 am. Because there is likely to be increased traffic due to the races, I would recommend you leave yourself extra travel time to the parks in the morning. It’s always better to arrive a bit early than to be worried about being late for your tour.
Disney’s Keys to the Kingdom Tour is going to be a treat! It’s on my must-do list to be sure, and getting a glimpse into the tunnels under the Magic Kingdom sounds so exciting! I do recommend wearing comfy shoes that day since the tour involves a bit of walking, and pack an extra bottle of water. It can still get very warm during the day in February.
I hope this helps with your planning, and I hope you’ll continue to send us your questions as you get ready for your visit!
Have a Magical Day!
