I've helped friends plan trip reveals for their kids, but there are different things to consider when surprising an adult, such as work and social schedules. The first thing you'll want to do is get your trip dates nailed down and have a hotel budget in mind. Then, call the
Walt Disney Travel Company at (714) 520-5060. A reservation agent can assist you with booking your
theme park tickets and hotel reservations (there are
Disneyland Resort and
Good Neighbor Hotel Packages for different price points).
Then, the fun part comes in when you get to plan the reveal! My favorite way is to wrap up a big box with something inside representing your Disney trip. Some suggestions are a Disneyland guidebook, a Mickey Mouse tee shirt, and Mickey Ears (he could bring them with him on the trip and have them personalized at
The Mad Hatter Shop on Main Street, U.S.A.). To make it extra special, add balloons to the box (it needs to be pretty big), and let them float up with a sign announcing "Surprise! We're going to Disneyland!" You could also prepare a Mickey-themed meal with Mickey waffles or Mickey-shaped pizza (some local pizzerias will make them upon request). Although it requires more planning, you could also write clues and take him on a scavenger hunt throughout your house.
