Hi Plan Disney! When did DCL start using the KTTW cards? Our first sailing was May 2000. I save everything and found our cards from 2003, but can’t find 2000, and can’t remember if we even had them! Do any of you know? TIA! Lisa😊

I’m pleased to meet you, Lisa. Thank you for joining us here at planDisney.

My family just returned from sailing aboard the Disney Fantasy. During our voyage, we noticed that one stateroom door was completely covered in Key to the World cards collected over years of cruising with the Disney Cruise Line by the family. It was a sight to behold! And, of course, it confirmed that ours is not the only family who takes pleasure in saving and reviewing these special keepsakes from each of our voyages on the Disney Cruise Line. Your anecdote is yet another confirmation of how precious those cards are to many who have been blessed to enjoy sailing with Captain Mickey, Captain Minnie, and all our dear Disney character friends.

Some of my planDisney pals and I excitedly chatted about your intriguing question regarding personal Disney Cruise Line nostalgia. After comparing notes and research, hunting for as much original material and individual experience as we could locate, we found that, yes, similarly magical Key to the World cards have been used not only at the Walt Disney World Resort for decades, but have also been in service since the very first Disney Cruise Line voyages aboard the Disney Magic in 1998. How’s that for some historical significance of these precious little cards?

So, apparently yes, your turn-of-the-millennium cruise also utilized these magical cards. I’m sorry you haven’t had luck locating your original cards yet. I hope they show up for you someday. I sometimes find our cards tucked into card sleeves attached to lanyards placed in boxes of souvenirs and travel gear in our storage room. You never know where yours may be found someday!

Tony’s Tip: Another tool I like to use to reminisce about previous Disney Cruise Line vacations is my personalized Castaway Club page on the Disney Cruise Line website. Besides being a place to review our Castaway Club member eligibility and benefits, I love scrolling through the “My Cruises” section to remember the dates and stateroom numbers of our family’s experiences aboard the Disney Cruise Line.

Thanks for racing your boat our way, Lisa. It was fun to look back on our past experiences. It makes me look forward to the next sailing even more!

    Have a magical day, Lisa!
