Is there a place I can look to see what special activities are going on the week of Jan. 4 thru 10, 2015? I'm wanting to avoid crowds if there are marathons, etc. going on. Also, what hotel do the large groups normally stay in?

    Hi Jeanette,

January at the Walt Disney World Resort is a time to catch last minute holiday magic and even enjoy the warm Florida sun!

When I am trying to figure out what is going on at the Walt Disney World Parks, I visit the Disney Parks Blog. This has all the latest and greatest information for the parks.

The week you are picking is during RunDisney's big marathon week. Guests will start arriving this week to either run or cheer at the 5K, 10K, Half and/or the Marathon. If you are like my husband and sister, you will be running in all four events starting on Thursday. Disney does try to have little impact on guests by having these events start at 6:00 am. The biggest impact in the parks will be on Sunday when the Marathon finishes the course in Epcot's parking lot. You can head to the RunDisney site to get more information on schedules and maps of the courses.

Most large group stay at the All-Star Resorts as they are the most affordable. However, if they are part of a convention on-site, Coronado Springs, Contemporary and the Yacht Club all have convention centers attached to them where guests may stay.

If you have not booked a room yet, I encourage you to do so as many runners will be staying on property to attend the events.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
