Hi! I am picking a race to train for (looking at the marathon weekend half in Jan 2018 or princess half marathon feb 2018). I have plenty of time to train, but it would be my first. Would you speculate that one 1/2 is more beginner friendly than the other?

    Hi Elizabeth!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. Congratulations on making the decision to train for a half marathon! It's an accomplishment in itself to be willing to take on the challenge.

My favorite thing about every runDisney race that I've ever done is that it is such a supportive environment and not competitive in nature! So the good news is that I honestly don't think you can make a wrong decision! With that being said, of all the runDisney races the Disney Princess Half Marathon tends to have the most amount of 'first timers' compared to Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend which tends to have more veteran runners. Based on that alone, I would lean more towards Disney Princess Half Marathon, but I truly think you'll have a wondEARful time at both!

Both race weekends next year are also celebrating anniversaries, so they should be rather popular! Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary for the Full Marathon and the 5th Anniversary of the Dopey Challenge. Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Half Marathon! So it's an exciting time to participate in both. Walt Disney World Marathon registration will open February 14, 2017 at noon EST and Princess Half Marathon Weekend registration will open May 2, 2017 at noon EST. With the anniversaries, I do expect these to sell out so please try and register as soon as you can.

Please let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be sending pixie dust your way for a magical race!
