How do you get picked for the opening ceremony in the Magic Kingdom? There are 2 birthdays being celebrated and my GD will be 3. Loves the characters and is not afraid at all of the crowds. She asked to do this in January. We are premium pass holders. Thk

    Lynda,

I can tell you from past efforts to get picked for a variety of such fun activities that there is no way to ensure you get selected.

While I can't give you the exact details of how they select these families (not because I won't, but because I don't know!), I can tell you that Disney does not typically take 'applications' for such activities. Now in cases like the Flag Raising at the Wilderness Lodge, you can request as you check in. They will take your name, and will notify you if there is a chance. But with the opening ceremony at the Magic Kingdom, it is different.

If I were in your shoes, this is what I would do. First, on the first day that you visit the Magic Kingdom, go to the park's Guest Services and let them know you would like to be considered to be this family on a future day during your stay. They may dismiss your request, saying that the family is selected randomly, or they make take your name. Either way, you have increased your chances of being selected.

After that, just enjoy your trip. Don't bank on getting asked for this amazing treat. If they do contact you, congratulations. But on the assumption that your odds are low, make sure you don't set your daughter up (or yourself) for disappointment. The fact is that there are thousands of families going into that park every day. The odds of you being selected is just very small.

Sorry I can't give you a better road map, but know that I have my fingers crossed for you!

    Have a magical vacation!
