Are personal cameras permitted in the character meal establishments?

Yes, absolutely. You can, and should, bring your own camera to the character meals.

At some (but not all) of the character meals, there is a professional photographer who will take a formal portrait of your family. However, there are no photographers circulating during the meal itself while you are meeting the characters. If you want to capture photos of your family interacting with the characters, then you should definitely bring your own camera.
