in the past we were welcomed to Magic Kingdom by Mickey arriving on the train shortly before the park opened for the day. Is this still true?

Hi Sue!  Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.  We are glad you stopped by with your question.

Being welcomed by "The Big Cheese" himself is a great way to begin any Disney day!  Rest assured, Mickey Mouse and friends still welcome guests to Magic Kingdom Park each day just before park open.  The location of the welcome has been moved from the train station platform to the stage in front of Cinderella Castle.  "Let the Magic Begin" is a fun show that takes place five minutes prior to park open.  All guests visiting Magic Kingdom Park may enter an hour prior to the scheduled park opening time, and enjoy spending time on Main Street, U.S.A. as they make their way toward Cinderella Castle.  This is a great time to get some family photos as you begin your day.  Disney's PhotoPass photographers will be out and about to capture your special moments.  You can grab your favorite beverages and snacks from Main Street Bakery to fuel up for your day.  Select shops will also be open during this time, so you'll be able to pick up some Mickey ears or other gear.  With your ears on and coffee in hand, "Let the Magic Begin" is sure to start your day off with a bang!

Please come back to the Moms Panel again with any additional questions you may have.  Wishing you a magical visit!
